Buying your child a new device for Christmas?

We know that lots of families buy children new devices at this time of year. Whether it’s a laptop, a phone, a tablet or a games console, there’s lots you can do to make sure it’s set up safely for your child.

Parental Controls

Setting up parental controls is an easy way to help keep your child safe on their new device. They can:

  • Block upsetting or inappropriate content 
  • Limit in-app purchases
  • Manage which apps children are allowed to download

You can set up parental controls on individual devices and on your home WiFi. 

We would also recommend activating privacy settings and ensuring location sharing is ‘off’ on each device and app that your child uses.

The helpline is open over the festive period from Monday-Friday 9am-7pm and Saturday-Sunday 10am-6pm. It’s also open on Boxing Day from 10am-4pm. The helpline is closed on Christmas day and New Year’s Day.
